A long distance phone call

Lucky for me, I talk to Dad all the time- but this time was particularly special.  Dad was enjoying a vacation down in Arizona with Tatyana and her family when I called to tell him the news:  I am pregnant!

 ...and Tatyana captured the moment.

17 weeks

Wow, 17 weeks down but still so far to go..

Feeling much more normal these days- although still going to bed before 9pm and eating like a sumo wrestler.

You can't so much tell from these pictures but I am really beginning to show. I have been wearing my maternity pants daily since about week 13! I'll have to take the next pictures at night when a days worth of carbo loading has sunk in.

Dyllan couldn't help herself- she loves being part of the action!

Every time we ask "Dyllan, do you want a brother or a sister?" She answers  "Brother".

" What doing mama, what doing?!"

Dyllan's standing up tall on top of her bug scooter, just so she can be in the picture.

I have a feeling Dyllans going to be a great big sister..

Here is week 17 when I was pregnant with Dyllan

4 year anniversary

Just got home from work- and found this little surprise waiting for me! Dan has got dinner all ready to go- and is off picking up Dyllan from daycare. What a lucky girl I am to have such a thoughtful and loving husband- he's the best!

A New Newton

Well it's official... Our family is expanding!  Dan, Dyllan and I are excited to announce that on December 14th we will be welcoming the newest edition of our family into the world.

Its been a bumpy start to my pregnancy this time around.. I didn't expect to get pregnant quite so fast (although I don't know why I thought this time would be any different than the first time)- so I didn't bother checking until about 8 weeks into my pregnancy.  Needless to say.. it must have been within minutes after finding out I was pregnant.. i began to feel what most people feel... SICK.  I really shouldn't complain- I hear horror stories from friends and acquaintances of throwing up all day and not being able to leave bed.. so luckily that wasn't me- no throwing up, no embarrassing moments.  But- I can honestly say that I have just come out of whats felt like a 8 week hangover.  The kind where all you want to eat is McDonalds and all you want to do is sleep.

My really fun schedule (as Dan likes to call it) has consisted of coming home from work- either getting take out (cause i'm too tired and lazy to cook) or making frozen pizza (they're not even good) or spaghetti (which I NEVER make or even like that much)- nagging Dan to bathe Dyllan and get her in bed, while I veg out on the couch watching a tinny bopper show or the news (cause its the only thing on TV).  I then roll off the couch, to brush my teeth and wash my face before going to bed around 8- 8:30 pm.  I learned early on this time around that if I don't sleep 10-12 hours a night- then I feel nauseous in addition to hungover all day at work.  My alarm goes off at 7am and I hit snooze till 7:10- 7:20am crossing items off my "get-ready-for-work" list.. in exchange for a few extra min of sleep- cause 10++ hours just isn't enough.. and each min counts these days.  I have to be at work by 8 or 8:30 (depending on the day) and the drive or bus ride depending on what I do takes anywhere from 30-45 min. (bus is faster, but these days it seems easier not to have to walk up to the bus stop (100 feet- up a slight incline), so I have been driving to avoid exercise!!)  Yep, gone are the days I would wake up at 4:50am to meet my running group at the gym by 5:15 am - run, shower, and get to work either on time or early.  Now?  Scratch the run, forget the shower, wear the same outfit at least twice a week (since nothing else fits, and its easier not to have to think of a new outfit), mascara and blush is the extent of my makeup routine, and my hair?  Well you know how much I love dry shampoo.. now more than ever.

I have just enough energy to fake my way through feeling good- energetic and cheery as I make cold calls and talk with clients all day.. so by the time I get home again.. humpf.  There I flop into total laziness... back on the couch with my takeout or frozen meal- watching poor Dan do the bedtime routine with Dyllan and clean up the dishes and laundry.  Dan deserves a ton of credit- I got very lucky in the good dad/domestic god department with him!

BUT i'm happy to say.. as of about a week ago.. I am back!  Well.. half back anyway.  I still don't work out every morning- but I did park myself on the elliptical machine for 30 min last Tuesday.. and 30 min again this morning.. so 2 times this week is a start.  Its amazing how quickly your body can get out of shape.  And the funny thing is.. I don't even really care.  It doesn't bother me that I coasted on level 2 for 30 measly minutes and felt like I had done a marathon.  I read somewhere (or maybe I dreamt this, I don't know.. but whatever the case it made me feel much better).. that being pregnant is like doing 2 hours of weights at the gym.  I doubt its even true- but for some reason its stuck in my head, and I keep rationalizing my lack of exercise and fat food cravings with the fact that I "worked out lifting weights for two hours"- so I deserve a break and milkshake.

Its amazing how different two pregnancies can be.  With Dyllan I felt great.  I didn't feel sick or even different the entire time.  I kept a normal schedule and didn't slow down at all.  I had no food craving or aversions- no mood swings- and didn't buy a single piece of maternity clothing.  This time?  Felt sick the minute I saw the pregnancy test results, my energy went from active to sloth, I only felt like "hangover food"- pizza, mcdonnalds, milkshakes, mexican, carbs carbs carbs.  My mood has been ok- but I bet if you asked Dan- he would say I've been irritable and no fun- and maternity clothes?  They're my new favorite fashion.. I slipped into some new maternity pants just days after finding out I was pregnant!  Yikes... this time around is gonna be a challenge.. I hope the worst of it is now over- as I am in the second trimester now.

It will be interesting to document this pregnancy- a bit like the first one.. compare belly shots and dr appts.. I'll have to look back through this blog to see how I was doing at each week.  I don't think I posted much -as I remember feeling pretty normal- and waiting anxiously for babycenter.com to tell me which fruit or vegi my baby resembled each week.

Well its 9pm- and I'm doing much better on the whole needing sleep thing.. but I better head to bed now.. a big work week ahead.

Dyllan at my 15 week ultrasound- playing with a barf bag and rubber glove while I get my ultrasound.   She's so excited to have a baby brother.  She only talks about it being a brother.  Who knows.. I am kinda with her on this one- seeing as this pregnancy is SO different.

Alien Newton- 10.5 weeks old.
